Lincoln City v Forest Green Rovers

This weekend sees the Imps third match of the season at home to big spending Forest Green Rovers in the Conference Premier. Both sides have four points from their opening two fixtures of the season, but it is widely expected, especially from wealthy backer Dale Vince of Forest Green that come the end of the season the Green are in the battle for promotion to the football league.

The Imps secured a hard earned 1-0 win at home to Macclesfield Town on Tuesday evening to ensure that we have kept two consecutive clean sheets so far. The major concern for the Imps is that Wright, who went off in the 1-0 victory, is highly unlikely to return to fitness for a number of weeks and as such a change in attack will be required. Waide Fairhurst could be called upon to make his first appearance in an Imps shirt as Simpson will need to shuffle his pack. At the back Tom Miller is still out meaning that Gray is highly likely to continue at right back.

The Green come to Sincil Bank with two differing performances, their opening day result saw them pick up a hugely impressive 8-0 victory at home to Hyde United, but they followed this up with a frustrating 1-1 draw away to Nuneaton on Tuesday night. The fear for the Imps is that the side that smashed Hyde could be the side that performs this weekend.

There is no doubting Forest Greens attacking array of talent, the club have invested heavily over the past few season on this area of the squad. Selection wise Eddie Oshodi will be out as he is serving the final match of his suspension. The injured list is fairly long with Turley, Styche, Racine, Mangan, Brogan and Brown all sidelined and out of this weekends encounter. Former Imp Paul Green is recovering from a knock and is unlikely to feature against his former side at Sincil Bank.

This is a very tough match for the Imps and could well be a good barometer of where our side stands this season. One thing is certain, we will need to defend well to have any hope of getting some points from this match, the Greens are formidable in attack and have so many options that they will create chances. It is too early on in the season to really judge form and as such I am hoping that we can continue what we have started and pick up at least a point this weekend to keep the positive feeling that surrounds the Imps at the moment.
