Following the 3-1 win at home versus Charlton Athletic in League One, I asked the Vital Lincoln City members what three things they learnt from the match.

Replies were received from sedgleyimp and Riiiiik. The first three things can be found below and the second can be found by pressing “Next” at the bottom right of the page, or clicking HERE!

Here’s what sedgleyimp said (discuss this HERE):

1. Tom Shaw has to be in the running for the head coach job on a permanent basis. We know there is a long-running thread on this very point with a big majority looking at either Cowley or Bradley. When the decision to remove Kennedy was made, Tom Shaw really didn’t come into that discussion. What a difference a week makes. As auditions go, the win at Fleetwood was pretty good. This win over Charlton took that to a much higher level and has pushed him to the front of most betting sites. Now we all know that those sites are very reliant on who has placed a 50p each way bet last for their odds, but they are very often right. Would it be a gamble in the long run. Yes of course it would. Tom is inexperienced as a head coach. It is a very different job to being one of the backroom staff and the pressures upon him would be ten times that he has been used to. That said, if the decision was made to give him the job, and thinking back to this game, none of us would begrudge him that opportunity to take us to the next level. The players clearly want to play for him and respect him as a coach.

2. Goals=confidence for strikers. Hakeeb Adelakun deserves so much praise for how he has conducted himself over the past few months. Frozen out of the squad, without even a number at the start of the season he has shown that not every player will bleat or sulk over their treatment but will get their head down and be ready should an opportunity arise. The lack of game time has affected his ability to contribute fully and some games have still passed him by. What was very clear from the win on Tuesday night was how much confidence he got from that opening strike of his. In the opening few minutes he didn’t seem quite on his game. An early shot from distance was poor when he had other players better placed. Some passes to him were miscontrolled. That all changed in that one sublime moment for his first goal. A controlled touch, swivel and smash changed his whole night. From that moment he was looking for the ball, making excellent runs and was rewarded with his second goal in the second half. All strikers need that confidence goals give them.

3. Lasse Sorensen will get a place on the Legends board at Sincil Bank. Okay he needs to be here for a few more seasons and any more performances like this one will soon get the scouts from other clubs both here and abroad down to our games with their notebooks in hand, but his individual performance in that game rates as one of the best I have had the good fortune to see from any player in a Lincoln City shirt in almost 50 years. A player who we always knew would give 100% even if he couldn’t get into a game as did happen when played in the centre of midfield he was a revelation down the right wing. What’s his best position? I really don’t know but you know from how he conducts himself on the pitch and as an ambassador of the club off it, you ask him to do it and he would give his absolute all for this club. Start moulding the statue now.
