1. Today we put out a very attacking lineup and it was certainly worth the experiment but it did seem to leave us a little disjointed at times and only when we added that bit of extra guile in the centre of the pitch did we start to play as we have so far this season. This is no slight on Rogers who as an 18-year-old is still learning the game but that little piece of solidity made the difference today.

2. Today was something a bit different for our defence to deal with and bar a stunning goal with the last kick of the game they stood strong in the face of a long ball barrage. Not for the first time this season Alex Palmer didn’t have a great deal to actually do for the 90 minutes. When you consider that we didn’t have Montsma on the pitch today, you still know that this defence will be solid every game.

3. It could be a very exciting looking table this time next week if we can get positive results against Portsmouth and Doncaster. Tough games but it’s just possible that we could get ourselves some serious breathing room. Great time to be an Imp.

Which famous entertainer was a winger with Northampton in the late 1940s?

1. Appleton’s magic second half potion still works. We’re often better after the break – he seems to be able to watch a game for a bit and be able to make a tactical adjustment that changes the game, like against Peterborough. I know McGrandles scored after he came on, but we were all over them in the second half even before that.

2. Bridcutt, Bridcutt, Bridcutt. I think he makes too many silly fouls, and I’m often all over him for that. But, he was also my man of the match today – there was one sliding tackle in our own box in the first half that was a real gem, and he made any number of clearing headers on the edge of our box.

3. There’s a big step up from the under-18s to League One. Morgan Rogers looked a little bit out of his depth today – trying to beat too many people rather than looking up and passing, and wanting too much time on the ball. But, he’s only 18, it was his first league start, and he showed the odd flash – given time and coaching he’ll be right.
