Following Saturday’s 2-1 win at home against Fleetwood Town in League One, I asked the Vital Lincoln City members what three things they learned from the match.

You can discuss what has been said in this article HERE, as well as many other topics on our 100% Imps forum!

Here’s what syimp said:

1. We are still struggling for full fitness. Our less-than-ideal pre-season, with players picking up niggly and not-so-niggly injuries, particularly in defence, will take a few weeks to overcome. It appeared, for obvious reasons, that there are some players not yet on message, hence misplaced passes and mental sharpness not yet there. We will be unrecognisable in September, with our new faces and the return of others from injury.

2. Proof again that MApp, the thinking man’s manager, makes astute substitutions. Clearly, the entrance of Bishop and Adelakun turned the game in our favour.

Bishop added some pace and urgency to our play, which had been missing for the first sixty minutes.

Meanwhile, Adelakun, who has a similar build to Akinde, looks as if he possesses the trickery to unlock defences, when he’s match fit and could be a crowd-pleaser.

3. Scully looked as if he was going to have one of those days, in the first half, but produced a moment of magic and a thundering finish to his penalty. We’ll do well to hang onto him; might well have had a hattrick, but for a last ditch tackle early in the second half.

Never underestimate him. He’s pugnaciously personified; give him a yard, he’ll take a mile.

Thank you to Graham Burrell and Lincoln City Football Club for the photograph!
