Lincoln City 2-0 Derby County: Views & Stats

|

Views from PerthImp following Tuesday night’s 2-0 win at home against Derby County in League One: “Great result Imps. Derby had a lot of the possession but failed to really create the chances – they beat themselves really with their slackness at times. Lincoln not convincing at times but defensively solid and they blocked and chased everything. Diamond frightened the life out of Derby and showed why he will be a tremendous asset to us this season. Rushworth has to be one of the best keepers in this league and is clearly Championship standard. Roughan is coming on in leaps and bounds – to keep a player like Mendez-Laing quiet speaks volumes for the young lad’s ability. Virtue and Sorensen held the defensive midfield together and TJ had a really good game – I think MK must have had a word in his ear. All in all, a great result and we are off the mark with a win at home. Hopefully, we can continue with a great performance at Brizzle on Saturday (assuming we haven’t lost half the team with injury).”

More views from our Match Thread:

Chesterimp: “Well that will quieten the doom-mongers for a few days.

Terrific win but a real harum-scarum match, lots of aimless long balls and poor passing from both sides, in truth all a bit League 2. The difference was we had the best player on the pitch and real commitment from the rest of the team.

If that’s typical of Derby, League 2 is where they may be heading.”

Merthyr Imp: “Strange how Diamond didn’t win the official man of the match award as he was outstanding tonight. He perhaps should have gone on and tried a shot himself towards the end rather than trying to play in House.

It’s the best I’ve seen Oakley-Boothe play, and the best from Eyoma maybe this season. Sorensen, especially, and Virtue both did well although were not faultless. As in the first half, House continued to run about to good effect, and putting one chance of three away is acceptable. Only slight disappointment was Garrick not really much of an attacking threat. Excellent from Rushworth.

Derby did look rather limited, and sloppy at times, although having said that, with better finishing they might have had a couple of goals. But it was good defending from us, especially with their most dangerous moment following from when WE had a corner. and overall, the spirit shown at Portsmouth and Oxford was evident tonight.”

Impish: “Couldn’t see us even getting a point, then hearing about Walsh and Hopper I did expect it to be an easy Derby victory. However, we really battled and put our bodies on the line tonight and that grit and determination won us the three points.

Derby were very slow to play out from the back and we tried to counter-attack when we did. Even though they had all the possession we had Rushworth to save us who will be a very important player for us is season. Diamond was really good and I thought House held the ball up well and deservedly got his goal.

All in all a very pleasing three points, thought everyone had a decent game and the crowd really got behind the lads and hopefully the injuries to Hopps, Walsh and Bishop tonight aren’t too bad. You never know we might even see the lesser spotted Mandriou at some point!”
