Following Tuesday night’s 2-0 win at home against Derby County in League One, I asked the Vital Lincoln City members what three things they learnt from the match.

Here’s what Chimpimp said:

1. Having just watched the extended highlights, it confirmed what was obvious for those in the ground. Derby have some quality in their side. They created a number of chances and on another day would have had a goal or two of their own. Derby have good players and 3 points against them is a good result. It takes a high-level performance to beat a capable side and puts Lincoln’s early season form into a more realistic context.

2. What was just as obvious was that Lincoln have players well able to compete at this level. Some of them are still a little raw and inexperienced but that only means they have room to develop and improve, which can only be good news. Roughan is not the finished article but that’s only a matter of time and was the man of the match for many. Overall he was superb and while it’s easy to see areas where Sorensen and House can improve, both are already physically strong and do the basics of their roles well. Derby had to play well to create chances and knew they were in a game and not a side that could easily be intimidated, as happened at times last season.

3. A night like Tuesday makes the more trying days worthwhile. There can’t have been many places better to have been last night than Sincil Bank. Those vast majority of supporters who have stayed with the team during more forgettable nights were rewarded with a great atmosphere, some decent football and the most important thing to send them home happy, 3 points.
