Following yesterday’s 2-1 defeat at home against Rochdale in League One, I asked the Vital Lincoln City members what three things they learned from the match.

Here’s what Chesterimp said:

1. We really struggle against sides set up with 3 centre-backs and wing-backs. In theory, with our full-backs bombing forward and the wide players of the front 3 supporting them, we should be getting overloads on the wings, but a well organised 3-4-3 or thereabouts, with midfielders providing support causes us more problems than opportunities.

2. Tom Hopper may not be the mythical “natural goalscorer” but his work-rate and pressing goes a long way on setting the tempo. We allowed Rochdale’s defence and goalkeeper to be comfortable in possession. Morton is not a chaser and harrier, Hopper is and we needed him to start today.

3. Continuing with Morton, 4-3-3 doesn’t always suit him and he was way too isolated and uninvolved today with no real goal scoring opportunities. 4-4-2 with Hopper was better for him. Food for thought for MA to get the best out of this young striker.
