Lincoln City 1-1 Wycombe Wanderers: Match Stats & Views From The Forum

|

Views from PerthImp following the 1-1 draw at home against Wycombe Wanderers in League One: “Superb defending by Lincoln. Lots of fight and they fully deserved at least a point. Wycombe didn’t really create anything of note. Once again a defensive error cost us. I am beginning to dislike Griffiths – the goalkeeping coach really needs to get hold of him and teach him how to come for balls that are in the air for ages. He needs to call ‘keeper’ and just come out and claim the ball. If anyone is in his way, tough shit – the guy is 6ft 24” &built like a brick outhouse – he should be cleaning up anyone who gets in his way. 🤬🤬. Anyway, back to the game & result. We have superbly stood up to the physicality of Wycombe, which will delight MA I’m sure. Norton-Cuffyhad a great debut, although he faded a bit second half, but he’ll get there. McGrandles fought for everything. Bramall terrorised the FB but didn’t quite have the luck with the final ball. Regan Poole fought for everything and won most. Scully, again, looked just a little off his game. Maguire is determined to get himself sent off, but boy does he get under players skins. Just wish they’d show a little more composure, especially with their passing as I think they could take someone apart if they showed a little more composure. Anyway, well-done Imps 👍👍.

Finally, the referee did well in the first half but gave us nothing in the second half and then almost lost control of the game when he wanted to let play go on several times but that just resulted in players taking advantage, which in turn led to some over physical challenges and a bit of play-acting.”

imps_joe: “All I’m saying is that Fiorini puts away that Sanders chance. Bring back Fiorini.

The referee made it far more aggressive than it needed to be by making constant wrong decisions. Who knows what the red was for.

A really good battling performance from us. They played no decent football and we coped very well for 70 minutes. Unfortunately, the whole team tired and we conceded a late goal that was absolutely coming. Frustrating that the fatigue and late goals are becoming a regular theme. A draw a fair result and one that I would have happily taken before the match. If I’m honest I was expecting a tanking because, going off form, we are not strong at defending balls in the box. Today, for the most part, we were excellent. 1 more point than expected. Onwards.”

Brendan Bradley: “It was inevitable that allowing that many crosses into our box with the wind like it was that we would eventually let one in. We’d had several fortunate escapes before they scored and then a couple more after.

We played better against the wind than with it, as I thought, and though I like the way we play I’m afraid that I’ll go what seems against the grain and say that I thought that match showed why we’re not a team challenging for the playoffs this season (though underperforming in the bottom third).

Because although we could have scored again on the break we were pretty much dominated throughout, in both halves, and our defending under pressure is too often of the haphazard don’t-panic-Mr-Mainwaring type. We didn’t look in control of what we were doing as so often this season, and it became all about throwing yourself at the ball or whacking at it wildly. That was in contrast to how we defended at, say Wigan and Sunderland, but those have been rarities this season.

I expected us to be bombarded when Wycombe took their most creative player off after an hour, so it couldn’t have come as a surprise. We’re a passing team. Pass the bloody ball better and relieve the pressure.

Happy for a point.”

JT_LCFC: “Incredibly mixed emotions. Beforehand would have snapped your hand off for a point, then seeing the inexperience of the back four I felt it could be damage limitation and now at the end of the game disappointing not to take all 3 points.

Thought we were admirable in our efforts, you know what Wycombe are going to do long throws, and set pieces but we dealt with it superbly. We needed that second goal and unfortunately never arrived.

Wasn’t a real fluid game, also hampered by a referee who capitulated in the second half. But some really positive team performances.”
