Views from PerthImp following Saturday’s 1-0 win at home against Oxford United in League One: “PHEW – all credit to Oxford they just kept trying to play football and were, by and large, the better team. We were just not in control of the game and couldn’t put enough pressure on Oxford. Once again we backed off the second half and gave them the impetus. Too many times we just cleared the ball instead of trying to get the ball down and look to pass it to a team-mate. when we did we tried to play the ball through their player instead of around them. We almost played like the relegation candidates. BUT – after all that Danny Mandriou’s penalty was enough, allied to Carl Rushworth’s ‘Gordon Banks’ style save. Three very welcome and very valuable points. Nearly there.”
Prior to the match, we published a quiz about the last time the two sides met at Sincil Bank, which can be found HERE, or at the bottom of the page!
More views from our Match Thread:
PWould: “Not too bothered about stats. For me it’s about finding ways to win. We often won Ugly with the brothers in charge. Lets find the same formula and just appreciate how good our keeper and defence are.”
gijsbert_bos: “Phew, couldn’t follow that. Decided to clean my bike and ignore the football for the last bit, then check at FT. Pleased we managed to hang on this time around, but we really should be making easier work of these games against the strugglers.”
Scotimp: “I am still very excited at the prospect of what MK will achieve once he has his own squad. To be 11th in League One, still unbeaten at home in March, with one of the best defences in the division, with someone else’s unbalanced, misfiring squad is incredible regardless of how the points are being accumulated. He clearly knows how to organise a team, no question at all about that, and I think he knows exactly where the remaining problems are and how to fix them. Let’s get over the safety line (looking likely to be 49 points at the moment) and look forward to next season. This is just for now, that will be then.”
Thank you to Graham Burrell and Lincoln City Football Club for the photograph!
