Following the 2-0 defeat at home against Gillingham in League One, I asked the Vital Lincoln City members what three things they learned from the match.

Here’s what Ruskingtony said:

1. If we are going to play from the back, which obviously we are, we cannot continue to be predictably slow and laborious about it. We are giving the opposition far too much time to get all their players behind the ball cutting out our attacking options. More players need to show for the ball and we have to move the ball forwards quicker.

2. Should we try 3-5-2? Up to last Saturday, we have played, not very successfully it has to be said, 4-3-3. On Saturday we played 4-4-2 didn’t really work at all. But then Hopper and Marquis hadn’t played together before. Due to weakness at the back and in the air is it worth drafting Jackson in (if fit) alongside Poole and Walsh. Certainly, Norton-Cuffy and Bramall can play wing-backs with their pace. Not really the time to gamble I know but desperate times need desperate measures.

3. Now that Florini has been left out for a few games is it worth throwing him back in. He had a run of poor games before being dropped but had put in some decent performances earlier in the season. Certainly, neither Bishop nor Maguire have done anything to really merit a place in midfield perhaps Florini might add a bit more skill to the team in an attacking midfield role.

All dilemmas for Michael Appleton to sort out.
