Following the 1-0 defeat at home versus Premier League side West Ham United in the Third Round of the Carabao Cup, I asked the Vital Lincoln City members what three things they learnt from the match.

On this occasion, I received three replies, so I will publish all three on separate pages! To get to the second and third sets of replies, press “Next” at the bottom right of the page, or click HERE and HERE!

Here’s what HitherImp said:

1. Self-belief has become part of the DNA of this squad. No one would have been surprised if little ol’ League 1 Lincoln were overawed by their Premiership visitors, but the team took the game to them from first to last and gave them only the respect they earned. It almost paid off, too!

2. The onfield relationships and understanding in the team continue to gel and strengthen game on-game. Not only do we now have individually good players due to some very canny business in the transfer window and re-signing of key players, but the squad work well as units and subunits even when substitutions need making from our ever-strengthening bench.

3. Even without the three recognised strikers, we are still a force to be reckoned with in front of goal. Our opponents can never be sure where the threat is going to come from and the players are becoming bolder in taking chances and half chances. Fringe players such as Adelakun and Academy graduates who have been given their opportunity by the injury situation are looking to prove themselves and doing a fine job… As the injury list reduces and the season builds, we can only dream of what this squad is going to be capable of. Self-belief has become part of the DNA of this squad. No one would have been surprised if little ol’ League 1 Lincoln were overawed by their Premiership visitors, but the team took the game to them from first to last and gave them only the respect they earned. It almost paid off, too!

Thank you to Graham Burrell and Lincoln City Football Club for the photograph!
