Following Tuesday night’s 1-0 defeat at home against Bolton Wanderers in League One, I asked the Vital Lincoln City members what three things they learned from the match.

Here’s what PWould said:

1. Plenty of positives from the game despite being on the wrong end of it. Great to see TJ coming back and what a welcome. We played some good stuff, even though we still look a little undercooked. Fantastic atmosphere and we will win plenty of games with that kind of application and with a few tweaks will look more dangerous. Adelakun, Scully, and Sorensen all had their moments. Poole, Edun, and in particular Bridcutt were very good although Tayo somewhat blotted his copybook with his part in the goal.

2. A few worries for me, mostly tactical. At the moment it is hard to see, taking Scully out of the equation, where the goals are going to come from. Big expectations on Nlundulu. We obviously need more creativity from midfield, and if we can keep Ted fit then I think we have the answer. Not sure that McGrandles and Sørensen can play effectively in the same team, they seem a bit similar. At the back, Appleton has quite a conundrum when all 4 center-halves are fit. For me, Walsh and Eyoma are potentially our best partnership but can we get Joe on the pitch regularly enough. I liked the way that the Bolton Centre back kept bringing the ball out but we did not press them high enough. McGrandles and Hopper have not started the season on fire and their places are under some pressure.

3. It’s a tough league, isn’t it? Bolton were good although I don’t think they will be in the top 6. We have a great manager but maybe not the monopoly on tactical nous. In fact, I thought Evatt outthought him, particularly in the second half.

Still optimistic that we will be top 10, hopefully, the top 6. Time will tell.

Thank you to Graham Burrell and Lincoln City Football Club for the photograph!
