“Let’s show everyone who the champions are.”

Ahead of tomorrow’s match at home against Colchester United in Sky Bet League Two, we asked our members what three things they think The Imps need to do to pick up all three points.

Here’s what Scotimp said:

This week it is all to do with attitude. It is easy for players to subconsciously take a foot off the gas once promotions and titles have been secured, but there are several reasons why our mindset has to be correct this time.

1. Use Colchester’s behaviour to fuel our fire.

Much has been said about the conduct of certain Colchester players when they beat us 1-0 in October. That will not have been forgotten by our players and it should be used to reinforce their will to not only win this game, but to win it very well. If Colchester fail to win, they are certain to be in League Two again next season. Our celebrations should also be held in a strategic place. What goes around, comes around.

2. Be determined to leave League Two in style.

Regardless of the attitude of certain League Two clubs and certain broadcasters, City have been the best team in the division this season, and by a fair margin. A win will guarantee we win the league by at least seven points from the next team, which is a gap that is hard to argue with. Signing off with a thumping big win will also send out a clear message to League One and send us all into the summer break in an optimistic mood. Let’s show everyone who the champions are.

3. Recognise the day for what it is.

Saturday is also a day of celebration and warrants a memorable performance. These days do not come around very often – it is only the fourth championship in my 48 years following the Imps, and two of those have come in the last three years. The players should be very proud of what that represents and give us one more great day before the shutters come down on a fantastic 2018-19.
