Trinity V City

Saturday 02/08/08 K O 3pm.

Lincoln City travel to the last meaningful friendly of 2008.
The short journey takes them 12 miles north to Gainsborough, to face Trinity of the BlueSquare North .

City have played the Blues competitively on 32 separate occasions, mostly around 100 years ago or longer in Gainsborough’s short stay in the Football League but also on six occasions in the F.A.Cup.

The record is (City first, last League game 1910/11)
League W 12 D 6 L 10 F 42 A 41
In the Cup W 4 D 2 L 0 F 12 A 6

Pretty meaningless league results but, two of those Cup results came just 10 years ago, both games being played at the Bank, The first a
1 v 1 draw and the replay ending in a 3 v 2 win for the boys in red and white.

Gainsborough had conceded ground advantage in the hopes of a larger crowd.
However, the most memorable event in either match was Hone’s dismissal for what could only be described as a ‘wild tackle’.

City team info;
May be without Sinclair, Wright and N’Guessan, who are all carrying minor knocks.

Trinity;
Should be at full strength.

Gainsborough have had some success over league oppositions in friendlies in July, having dispatched chesterfield 2 v 1 and being extremely unlucky against Grimsby, losing 2 v 1 but dominating proceedings.

City can expect good class opposition in this fixture but, ultimately, should see off Trinity in comfort.
