Views from Joe Plewes after yesterday’s 0-0 draw away at Morecambe in League Two: “Bit disappointed today. They were a poor side, and weirdly the game reminded me of Southport away last season when we had already won the division.

An extremely rare day where I felt the Cowleys had us playing poorer than the sum of their parts. Nothing inventive, Green lost wide again, more direct than we needed to be against an inferior side. So often it got to Habergham and Eardley and it felt like we hadn’t shifted across to give them a pass so it was a percentage ball into the box. Felt like we played into their hands. To be fair Ellison’s Prod and McGurk free kick were as close as the game came to a winner!

If we score from the free kick routine it might have been a different, comfortable story. Still an away point and we’re still in the mix, but two points dropped.”

imps_joe: “Hard to describe that game as anything other than disappointing. Although I think we edged it, a draw was a fair result in a game where defence massively outshone attack. We dominated possession but never really looked like scoring after the clever set play from the free kick first half. Following that we could have literally played until the sunset and still not forced a reasonable save from their keeper let alone score. It was really frustrating because has we got that first it would make want they would have had to open up.

That game felt like being back in the conference. No atmosphere, no home fans, poo pitch and low quality. Can’t fault the effort from either team but quality and intensity was rarely seen.

Still not a big fan of 4-3-3. I don’t think it plays to our strengths but we seem to be getting points.

Our play style was far too predictable and we played to their defensive strengths. We kept doing the same thing: high hanging crosses from deep positions which they dealt with with ease all game. Sam’s crosses were particularly poor. Why didn’t we try knocking the ball in behind? The service for green (who I think is wasted on the wing) was no existent. Why didn’t we try having a shot from the edge of the area? Unfortunately some of our passing wasn’t good enough (admittedly the pitch didn’t help). So many passes were behind players and it slowed play down.

Positives were botswick and Wharton were quality at the back. The first touch of Wharton probably is probably one of the be best in the team! Will waterfall get back in? Woodyard was head and shoulders better than anyone on the pitch today.

Huge game on Friday. Must not lose!”

StrangelyBrown: “Just got back from Morecambe.

Whilst disappointed we didn’t win, we have an away point against a Morecambe side who have re-found their form, have just beaten Exeter and don’t concede many goals.

Didn’t think the game was that bad (certainly not akin to Barnet or Cambridge) and we totally controlled the first half without putting the game to bed.

Chances were few and far between but overall an away point.

Thought the support today was excellent and certainly, from where I was stood, there seemed to be a lot more than the 676 away fans announced.

Good Friday is a real 6 pointer though.”
