“It got the team much further up the pitch.”

|

Following Tuesday night’s 2-0 win at home against Oldham Athletic in Sky Bet League Two, we asked our members what three things they learned from the match.

Here’s what Jamesimp said:

1. We have more than one plan. If the two up the front of Rhead & Akinde isn’t working then we can change things and bring Rowe on. It was refreshing to see how much closer he got to Akinde last night, it got the team much further up the pitch.

2. Gilks is a keeper we can rely on. His kicking isn’t brilliant but when he throws it his distribution is spot on. He seems to have a real assurance around him, commands his area and can pull off difficult saves when he has to, his performance in the first 15 minutes shaped the game, seeing off the early Oldham promise.

3. Another good performance by the midfield, Andrade & Anderson were a thorn in the side of the Oldham defence and O’Hara was his now usual steady self winning lots of ariel battles. Tom Pett like O’Hara went up and down the pitch well, getting forward and helping out the front two.

And here’s what Impalex said:

1. Slightly off piste here, but it is safe to say that we cannot rely on the Club’s suggested ticket sales to get an idea of what the attendance will be. I am sure that I read somewhere that 8,600 or more tickets had been sold? Having said that, I am also sure that our final end-of-season average will be in excess of 8,900 but less than 9,000.

2. Rhead and Akinde worked well together first half but the change at half-time both to suit the changing weather conditions as well as to wrong-foot the opposition who had been reduced to 10 players, displayed excellent tactical nous from both the Cowleys. It has also become apparent that the team no longer sit back on a slender lead but continue to press forward to push the other team back. Again, good tactics.

3. Most Imps fans will already be aware that we possess the best two wingers in League 2, but more and more opposing fans are now learning this too!
