If Steve Evans Wants The Definition of Foul Play, He Should Try The Following Random Examples

|

Following Friday night’s 3-0 win away at Gillingham, Steve Evans unsurprisingly had a good moan about the referee. One of the quotes, which is from KentOnline, is “We don’t expect anything given to us that is not right, but I am watching Vadaine Oliver getting absolutely dragged all over the place for half an hour and not get a free-kick, it is disappointing.”

You can listen to what Steve Evans said after the match at the bottom of the article. Below you will find Scotimp’s response to what he said, and you can discuss it on the forum HERE, as well as many other topics on our 100% Imps forum! We have also published a Lincoln City v Gillingham Quiz, which can be found just below the response. Every page view helps raise money for Lincoln City Football Club!

Have just watched the whole game back again, and replayed certain incidents.

If Steve Evans wants the definition of foul play, he should try the following random examples – there were more:

40:31 Reckless challenge by Oliver on Joe Walsh, yellow card given.
57:09 Deliberate foul by Cundy on Hopper off the ball, just before Johnson hits the bar.
65:47 Reckless swipe through the ball by Oliver, catching Adam Jackson in the box.
70:58 Deliberate foul by Tucker on Hopper off the ball, just before Oliver heads over the bar.
77:04 Reckless elbow from Akinde into Joe Walsh’s face, yellow card given.

Part of the Gillingham game plan was clearly to block Hopper’s runs and take him down wherever possible – two blatant examples cited above. And does Ogilvie take that blow to his face deliberately trying to block Hopper again? It looks like it to me – Ogilvie carries on straight through the path of the ball – but he comes off worse.

All match long, Oliver repeatedly placed his arm over the shoulder of the defender behind him, the intention being to incapacitate him as the ball arrived.

Perhaps Mr Evans would like to comment on these incidents, and then question why the referee only booked four of his players, and not six or seven of them.

They reminded me of Barrow under Paul Cox.

The penalty was a foul – Ryan Jackson does not dispute the decision in any way. And why would Johnson go down in that position? He was through on goal.

Hopper was onside when he scored (allowed).

Grant was onside when he scored (disallowed).
