How long have you supported Charlton Athletic?
I was taken to my first game at 11 weeks old so pretty much since birth, this is my 30th season ticket and I’m not 34 yet.
What are your hopes and expectations for the 2023/24 season?
Promotion, probably via playoffs. I think anything less would be an underachievement with this squad.
What do you think of your manager?
Since Micky Apples came to the club he has turned our season around. I do not like his insistence in playing a striker on the wing, but you cannot say we aren’t a threat going forward and all our attacking players are in form at the minute. Our defence is also starting to look more solid, which is a massive improvement from our early season form.
Style of play and tactics – direct/passing/hybrid?
We mix it up really. We get forward at pace, so we tend to have players ahead of the ball if we do get the ball forward fast enough, but the desire to get forward means we can get goals in transition. We won’t play passes for passing sake, but it won’t be long ball.
One(s) to watch now and in the future?
Blackett-Taylor has pace to burn and when he is on song he is a joy to watch. Leaburn is a threat in front of goal, he’s very young and will likely be moving to a higher level in the near future. Alfie May needs no introduction at this level. He’s currently on form to bag 30 this season and will be a constant nuisance.
Our academy brings through players for fun, so for the future I’d tip, Lucas Ness, Tyreece Campbell, Zach Mitchell, Nathan Asiimwe and Karoy Anderson at the minute. Daniel Kanu scored 4 on Saturday, and is currently on loan at Southend.
Random fact about your Club?
We are one of 3 teams to play in FA Cup finals when the ball has burst and both times it happened we were in the final.
Which were your favourite and least favourite matches involving Charlton Athletic?
Most, either of the playoff finals, take your pick!
Least, probably losing 5-1 to West Ham on my birthday. A traumatic experience for a young lad.
Which sides do you think will finish in the top six and which do you think will finish in the bottom four?
Top 6 (not in order): Charlton, Bolton, Portsmouth, Oxford, Wycombe, and Barnsley.
Bottom 4: Cheltenham, Reading, Carlisle, and Fleetwood.
What are your thoughts on Lincoln City?
Lincoln City is not a club I specifically keep much of an eye on I am afraid. I’ll have more thoughts 10pm Tuesday.
What is your prediction for this match?
Lincoln 1-3 Charlton.
