This will be the first time Daniel Middleton has been the man in the middle for a match involving either Lincoln City or Charlton Athletic, having only been promoted to the National Group of Referees by the Professional Game Match Officials Limited prior to the start of the current season.

He did, however, referee two matches in the Football League last season prior to his promotion: Crewe Alexandra 0-1 Tranmere Rovers in the EFL Trophy (3 yellow cards) and Sutton United 1-1 Crewe Alexandra in League Two (3 yellow cards and 1 red card).

Daniel Middleton oversaw a total of 21 matches last season, showing 69 yellow cards (3.23) and 7 red cards. He was just a little card happy in the Conference match between Chesterfield and Bromley (3-2) when he showed 8 yellow cards and 1 red card, including bookings for former Imps Chris Bush and Adam Marriott.

So far this season, Middleton has refereed 10 matches, showing 28 (2.80) yellow cards and 2 red cards. He was most card-happy on the opening day of the season when Forest Green Rovers hosted Salford City in League Two, in front of a crowd of 1,936 at The New Lawn. In this match, he showed 6 yellow cards, including a booking for former Imp Jamie Robson, as the visitors took all three points in a 2-0 win.
