“He is still very young but the past couple of games has shown him to be comfortable in the middle of the park.”

Following Saturday’s 1-0 win at home against Tranmere Rovers in League One, we asked our members what three things they learned from the match.

Here’s what sedgleyimp said:

Truthfully probably not a great deal but here goes…

1. It’s not going to be very pretty for the remainder of the season. The phrase “results end of” will be heavily used if we continue to get wins in matches of this nature which I am perfectly happy with and I’m sure the majority will be. Free-flowing football bar the occasional glimpse will be in short supply and supporters need to show the kind of patience the players showed today to get the points that will move us away from the bottom three.

2. Ellis Chapman’s recent run of games in the first team has been of great benefit to him and will aid his continued development. He is still very young but the past couple of games has shown him to be comfortable in the middle of the park. What is clear is that his confidence has increased with his willingness to make himself available for passes at both ends of the pitch. He has benefited from full games rather than cameo appearances and further game time can only add to this.

3. The weather still affects pitches and games. Despite limited use in the past couple of months, today’s pitch was not in great condition. It seemed to have areas where bobbles would cause the ball to not role as you would expect especially noticeable in the first half where one caused the ball to veer away from Bostwick despite the pass being straightforward. This might be of use to us when we play our next two home games against teams who are probably better footballing teams (Ipswich and Posh) and something we could take advantage of. It might mean we get a bit more neck ache looking up for the next few weeks.
