Imps News

“Going from smug to sucking lemons and staying that way for the rest of the season was a thing of joy.”

The Imps showed their truly incredible 3-2 comeback win against Forest Green Rovers on their YouTube Channel yesterday. If you didn’t watch this, you can do so HERE, as well as viewing our Q&A with a Forest Green Rovers supporter ahead of the match HERE.

This match was before we introduced our “3 Things” feature, so before the match, I started a thread asking the members of Vital Lincoln City to post the 3 things they learned from the match.

Here’s what Chesterimp said:

1. To describe that side as ‘never giving up, battlers to the end’ etc barely does it justice At the leaders, 2 goals down then getting back to 2-2 in the final minute, I’m sure we’d have all been highly delighted to see them play out added time for that point. Not this lot, the players and management could see they had the momentum and energy to press for, and deserve, the win they got, FGR were blown and there for the taking. ‘Winners’ is the most succinct description, one this side lived up to time and time again throughout that season.

2. We absolutely battered them in the last 20 minutes, but virtually the only time FGR got into our box in that time it needed Farman to show why he’s a great keeper at this level, the win wouldnt have happened without that vital save to keep it at 2-1.

3. Cooper’s facial expression going from smug to sucking lemons and staying that way for the rest of the season was a thing of joy.

And here’s what HitherImp said:

1. We can see where the ‘go till the whistle’ attitude began to form. So many time have the Imps snatched a game by battling for every ball and not settling for the draw. They really, really believed and, by that point so did the supporters!

2. Nicely worked set pieces galore were integral to the NL promotion campaign, with our two towering centre backs ripping holes in defences and the training field drilling of the different strategies being inch-perfect. With so many outfield players getting on the scoresheet and the ambiguity of the ‘train’, defences were not sure who to target and got fooled time after time.

3. Lots of clever feet on display, particularly from Arnold and Marriott running at and taking on the defenders. Two talented and foresighted players who make a lot of chances as well as taking what falls to them. Honourable mention to Rheady for that sublime backheel to feed Waterfall.
