Following the 1-1 draw away at Forest Green Rovers in League One, I asked the Vital Lincoln City members what three things they learnt from the match.

Prior to the match, we published a quiz about the last time the two sides met at The New Lawn, which can be found HERE, and there is also another 15-question quiz at the bottom of this article! Have a go at both and share your results on Twitter if you’re on there!

Here’s what sedgleyimp said:

1. You have to put teams away when you are in control of a game. On Saturday we went in at half-time with a 1-0 lead. Honestly, it should have been at least two and possibly three. Opponents who are struggling at the bottom of the league and in poor form don’t come back from such positions. As it was we gave them the chance to reorganise and get back into the game and we ended up with yet another draw from this season where if you did the Pools, we’d be bankers week in and week out.

2. The high-pressing game is still there, but it is understandably tiring come this stage of the season. We have some players who are literally blowing out of their arses come the end of the game. I get it. The manager wants a high-press game and the players to their credit are still trying to do it. But long seasons do take tolls on them. We have a couple who could really do without a Tuesday-Saturday constant slog of games, but the size of the squad means that they are being asked to play at a high tempo constantly. We don’t have the luxury some teams in this league have in being able to rest players and perhaps we need to give a few of them a little bit of slack as it is difficult to maintain levels of performance week in and week out.

3. I quite enjoyed the closeness of the pitch to the supporters on Saturday. It felt a bit of a throwback to my youth leaning up against the wall at the Railway end. Okay, the atmosphere wise it was non-existent and that is from both sets of supporters. I assume non of our usual 617 chorus could be bothered to go Saturday as their normal vocalisms were absent. However it was nice to be that close to the play that you could hear players, they could hear you and you just felt strangely more involved in the actual game itself. I understand that the TV pictures weren’t great which shows there is no substitute for actually going to a game.

Thank you to Graham Burrell and Lincoln City Football Club for the photograph!
