“Fine-tune the play in the last third and we will have no difficulties scoring.”

Views from NottyImp following Saturday’s 1-0 win at home against Blackpool in League One: “A solid, workman-like win. Blackpool didn’t offer much and we looked very dangerous on the break and generally when coming forward with space to play. Fine-tune the play in the last third and we will have no difficulties scoring.

Decent debut for Melbourne who looked up for it. Edun grew into the game and had a good second half. Nice move for the goal and, whatever happens to John-Jules in the future, his first League goal will forever be at Sincil Bank for the Imps.

Onward and, it appears, upward.”

More views from the Match Thread:

PerthImp: “A win is a win is a win. Well done Imps. Played some beautiful football at times and considering there are new players and they haven’t had time to gel properly they did really well. Melbourne, Edun, John-Jules all did well. We rode our luck at times with the clearances off the line and Vickers save at the end but I think it was meant to be. Great goal from John-Jules which will give him a lot of confidence hopefully. The only downside was how we allowed them to dominate possession straight after the goal, though it may have allowed us to catch them on the break. Overall, very encouraging performance and much to be getting excited about. Up the Imps.”

sirmikealot: “Morrell outstanding as usual. Edun was good, lacked some composure, rushed some passes but great mobility and flew into a few challenges. Melbourne solid on the left. Overall a lot to be confident about.”

Londonimp12: “After the player departures we’ve seen recently that win is nothing short of remarkable as the team must have been suffering.

We have now beaten Bolton, Blackpool, Ipswich, Peterborough and Sunderland, something that wasn’t even conceivable in my mind when the Cowleys left.

Huge credit has to go to the board for the due diligence they carried out to bring in a manager like Appleton and kudos to Appleton himself for taking over in such tricky circumstances; not complaining about a lack of funds, the quality of what he had to work with or the idolisation of the Cowley’s but going about his job and doing it damn well!

I’m going to go out on a limb here and suggest that we may have found a manager with the potential to better the Cowley’s achievements, by reaching the playoffs during his tenure.”
