“We are now seeing what kind of football Michael Appleton wants us to play.”

Following Saturday’s 1-0 win at home against Blackpool in League One, we asked our members what three things they learned from the match.

Here’s what sedgleyimp said:

1. This is a crazy league. In a matter of weeks, we have gone from looking to see how other teams in the bottom six have fared to how those at the very top of the league have done based upon our set of results, and where that puts us. Another four wins and we can forget about any relegation concerns. Another run of seven/eight wins before April and we might just be thinking about the top six and the possibilities that could bring.

2. We are now seeing what kind of football Michael Appleton wants us to play. It’s based on speed and energy. Almost counter-attacking whether at home or away. Play today was swifter. Players are being encouraged to bring the ball forward should the opportunity arise. The play out from the back tactic is much improved when the ball is played quicker with players being alive to it. The team will be largely built on youth though space can still be found for wise old heads.

3. This week we sold three players who served the club with distinction and ones who we will be eternally grateful to for their contribution to our Championship winning season. All three excellent players. What is apparent though is that there is a plan in place. Each player sold had already been replaced in the squad with players identified as capable replacements. In the past when a star name left it often left a gaping hole to fill with often a panic buy resulting. Not now. We have a team ranging from the manager to the boardroom who clearly know what they are doing and providing answers to any supporters concerns over player sales before the issue raises its head.
