“Don’t be fazed by their home record.”

|

Ahead of Saturday’s match against Coventry City in League One, we asked our members what three things they think The Imps need to do to pick up all three points.

Here’s what Scotimp said:

Or even to get a draw?

1. The defensive one: negate their speed of attack.

Coventry have very quick strikers, they seek to move the ball very quickly through midfield, and we tend to have problems against such teams. This may be controversial, but I would consider playing Aaron Lewis at right-back instead of Eardley. It would be nice to have MOC fit to protect the central defence, but there is a possible alternative: play Bostwick just in front of the defence in place of the inexperienced Ellis Chapman with either Connolly or Melbourne at centre half. Coventry have only scored 15 in 11 home games and could become frustrated, especially if their fans become restless in a surreal atmosphere.

2. The attacking one: play Akinde and Walker together.

St Andrew’s is one of the larger pitches in the league and playing with two up front could be useful in stretching the play when we have possession. Akinde could be used in the Rhead role with Walker playing off him. The wide pitch also gives Grant and Anderson space to attack.

3. The psychological one: don’t be fazed by their home record.

P11 W7 D3 L1 F15 A8 Pts24 looks pretty good on paper, but there is also a story in there: they have played a large number of the strugglers – Accrington, Wimbledon, Doncaster, Gillingham, Rochdale, Tranmere and Southend are all in the bottom half of the table; furthermore, they have won only one game by more than one goal (2-0 against Bristol Rovers at the start of the season). They don’t score goals very readily and have actually conceded one more than we have, which makes this game winnable.
