Match Thread: Lincoln City v Burton Albion

How long have you supported Burton Albion?

For about 10 years now, I have had a season ticket for 7 seasons.

What are your hopes and expectations for the 2023/24 season?

Based on how we have started, I’d be quite happy to stay avoid relegation. Coming in to the season, hopes were a bit higher, but we’ve struggled to get going so far, although I think a mid table finish is still possible.

What do you think of your Manager?

Dino is hit and miss with many Burton fans, but theres no doubt that Burton had a tough start to the season. The football isn’t exactly pretty, but our pragmatic approach has come good recently.

Style of play and tactics – direct/passing/hybrid?

Very direct. Although Burton aren’t impartial to a fairly high press, we tend to sit deeper and try and hit teams on the break, also often using set pieces to their advantage.

One(s) to watch now and in the future?

Kwando Baah has come into fine form recently, and looks dangerous down the wing. For the future, Ciaran Gilligan started against Cambridge after an injury in the warmup to Mark Helm, and looked impressive. He’s had flashes of quality since coming through the academy, but is yet to put a consistent run together. This season could define his career.

Random fact about your Club?

The Stig, famous from Top Gear, is allegedly a Burton fan.

Which were your favourite and least favourite matches involving Burton Albion?

The favourite has to be Sunderland away. Two goals after the 90th minute saw the Brewers claim a 2-1 win, relegating Sunderland in the process. Although Burton would also get relegated later in the campaign, that evening was a night of incredible scenes.

Which sides do you think will finish in the top six and which do you think will finish in the bottom four?

I think Portsmouth, Barnsley, Peterborough, Bolton, Derby and Oxford will finish in the top 6, Cheltenham, Fleetwood, Leyton Orient and Reading.

What are your thoughts on Lincoln City?

A great away day, and Burton always take a decent following. Some good pubs too.

What is your prediction for this match?

It will probably be a cagey affair, I’d like to think Burton could nick it, but I’ll go for a 1-1 draw.
