Danny Cowley was serenity personified as he drew attention to Lincoln’s season-long consistency ahead of the ‘game in hand’ versus Exeter City on Tuesday night.

The Season To Date: Imps should be proud of how efficient and consistent the home and away performances have been – very similar records – in such a tight league. Only four defeats in total and one at home in a league where anyone can beat the opponents on any given day is a testament to that. Coming off four draws it was good to end the sequence with a win which DC hopes will be backed up on Tuesday. A lot was learnt from the Stevenage game resulting in the tweaks and corrections that the players executed admirably on Saturday.

Squad Rotation: With this being the first midweek game for a month potential rotation was raised. DC has concerns about Bruno Andrade and whilst he is not 100% out of the match it is an issue and the next 24 hours will be key. DC will have a good look at Exeter and pick the best ‘fit’ from the squad. That could involve a formation change or equally, Imps have good wide players that can come in to cover BA and HA. Regarding the squad players, he has been bedding them in patiently as carefully planned following the Jan. transfer window. Cian Bolger got a start due to a Jason Shackell injury and Danny Rowe kept his place on the back of his impact as a substitute. The other signings have gone about learning the team system and partnerships with the players around them; some learn quicker than others. DC tends to aim for continuity as default and avoids dropping a player for one bad game as that can be counterproductive in so much as the incoming player is under too much pressure to perform or think they will also be dropped.

Exeter: They are a well run mature club with players that are good technically and tactically. They recruited well following the loss of Stockley and even without Tisdale, having appointed from within they have maintained continuity. DC is looking forward to a game under lights at the business end of the season and would like as many people there as possible at this time. He would have liked the game last week during half term to get Junior Imps in but fixtures for Exeter didn’t allow for that. DC was aware of the ‘Monsters’ comment from the Exeter manager as the players had pointed it out. He thought the comment was unnecessary but felt sure Imps would get over the comment and smiled as he added, “It depends if you like monsters or not”.
