City eye Owls’ cup clash

Lincoln could be set for a ‘glamour’ tie with Sheffield Wednesday in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy after being placed in the Northern Section-East part of the draw along with the men from Hillsborough.

Conversely, Chris Sutton’s men may be heading to Hartlepool United on a wet Tuesday evening if they are pulled out of the hat with the Monkey Hangers.

Also in City’s section of the draw are Chesterfield, Rotherham, Notts County and, more bizarrely, Northampton and Walsall, so whoever Lincoln are drawn against on August 14, it looks like being a tricky encounter.

But if they do get the Owls, then it will be the first time for 30 years that the two teams will have played each other, with Wednesday crushing the Imps 3-0 in an FA Cup tie in the 1979/80 campaign.

The tie will be played the week commencing August 30.
