Former Imps trialist Luke Prosser has penned a pre-contract agreement with Southend United and will join them officially when their transfer embargo is lifted.

Lincoln boss Chris Sutton took a look at the former Port Vale defender following his release by the Valiants and played the second half of City’s match with Walton Casuals on July 16.

Prior to that he had spent a short spell on trial with Barnet, but has now opted to sign a one-year deal with the Shrimpers, becoming the 14th new arrival at Roots Hall under new manager Paul Sturrock.

Southend are also taking a look at former Imps loanee Rene Howe, with the Peterborough striker playing an hour of their recent friendly defeat of Eastbourne Borough.

Shrimpers assistant-boss Tommy Widdrington told the club’s official website: ‘Peterborough were good enough to let us have a look at Rene and it’s something we will obviously discuss now we have seen him up close and personal. We are obviously aware of him and he does have a good goalscoring record.’
