Ahead of Saturday’s match at home against Charlton Athletic in League One, I asked the Vital Lincoln City members what three things they think The Imps need to do to pick up all three points.

Here’s what sedgleyimp said:

1. Round pegs in round holes. Despite quite a bit of pessimism around at the moment we actually do have some very good footballers at our club. Players who have the ability to play the game at a very high level. But sometimes they are being asked to perform in a position that doesn’t get the very best out of them. They will try and fit into the formation, but often instinct kicks in and they start to play in other areas. You consider the likes of Eyoma who last season was exceptional both at right-back and in the few games, he played on the right side of the central defence. This season he’s been largely deployed on the left and his performances have suffered as a consequence. Fiorini has had a very decent start to his Lincoln career, yet when deployed wide right his influence is less. Bishop can attack from deep with the ball at his feet and scare opposing defenders. If he plays further forward that key aspect of his game is missing and he is unable to get involved as much. So look to the quality of the players available and tweak the formation and style to get the best out of the players rather than trying to squeeze them into the usual formation.

2. Try and relax. The best three performances I have seen this season have all been away from home. The wins at Cambridge and Burton plus the penalty shoot-out loss at Shrewsbury. Players were able to express themselves in such a way I’ve not seen at a home match. So could this be because of nerves in front of a full house at Sincil Bank? I really don’t know if this is the case but a more relaxed player will play that much better. So chill out lads. You have the skills to beat every opponent in this division. Relax and let your natural game flow.

3. Put Lewis Fiorini on dead-ball situations. We haven’t been great from corners and free-kicks yet this season. I’m struggling to remember any goal coming as a direct result of one. The delivery needs to be better and judging by the quality put in by Fiorini in the Scotland under 21 match the other day, he can deliver from those situations. Although Scotland didn’t score from any, the ball was certainly put in the right area and didn’t get cut out by the first defender. It will also give Anthony Scully the chance to be a nuisance in the penalty area and he is the type who will snap up a loose ball should it fall to him. That little small margin could make the difference on Saturday.

Thank you to Graham Burrell and Lincoln City Football Club for the photograph!

City's 2-0 win over Charlton on 27 September 2020 was the first league meeting between the clubs since which season?
