“Bury were simply the best team I have seen all season.”

Views from UnbelievableJeff following Saturday’s 3-3 draw away at Bury in Sky Bet League Two: “The weather was foul, the pitch looked like it had been played on by Wigan RFC and they had the most polite announcer this side of Cowplain.

On to the game. I’ll keep it short and full of cliches.

A draw was a fair result, however, Bury showed why they score so many late goals and are experts from coming from behind, often to win. We were hanging on at the end and were blowing out of our collective backsides.

Bury were frightening going forward. They reminded me a lot of the Micky Adams Fulham team in 96/97. They won the division at a stroll, I believe. We were uncultured and played counter-attack football. Bury were simply the best team I have seen all season.

I have to say we played well though, considering the weather conditions and held our own. We had to work hard for our chances, and conceded far too many corners. Particularly a concern was Eardley, he was done like a kipper so much, that if you wanted some for breakfast, they would have run out.

Still, we lost a lead three times. But a draw was probably a fair result. For me, big John was blowing out of his backside at 80 mins and I think perhaps the third sub should have been the biggun. We probably could have imposed more control and not looked so panicked.

There is some debate on Ashton Tours about a point gained or two lost. Considering how formidable Bury are with how they attack, I consider it definitely a point gained and a very entertaining game to watch.

At this stage of the season, we have to keep accumulating points. Before last Saturday if you said we would get 7 points from 9, which included a local derby and two trips to some very difficult venues, I think anyone would have bitten your hand off.

Top by 5 points, going into February, Mansfield making a charge, Evan’s getting sacked. How exciting.”

More views from the Match Thread:

Imps2018: “Bury are the best team we’ve played in this league. They play very good football. I’d back them to join us in getting promoted, most likely with Mansfield.

Danny Mayor will join a Championship club. He is too good for this level. He is 75% of that attack, and it is a very good attack. Bury must be hoping not this window.

I thought the referee was absolutely excellent. Not perfect but can’t expect that at this level. Let the game flow and only stepped in when it was necessary. Excellent.”

JT_LCFC: “Biggest thing today was that we didn’t lose any ground on one of our rivals. In the end, a draw was a fair result and Bury are a decent side.

The biggest frustration is being in front 3 times and normally we are streetwise enough to see out the game.

7 points from the last 3 games we would have been happy with and the march to League 1 continues.”

StrangelyBrown: “Good game of football, great atmosphere (Imps fans sounding very loud on EFL highlights), both teams went for a win in pretty poor conditions.

Stats show 53%/47% possession to Bury which shows we controlled parts of the game and Bury “passing” game was most noticeable in the final third of the pitch when, on occasions, it was very fluid.

We battled really well and a point of Bury maintains 2 points per game from the last 4 (which has included Grimsby at home and Bury away) so a really good return for 2019.

Good advert for League 2, end to end and thoroughly enjoyable.

Events after the game finished were pretty awful for the Imps families and elderly fans involved- not seen anything like that for many years (knuckle draggers fighting knuckle draggers is one thing) and felt sorry for some clearly absolutely petrified little Imps fans who were pounced on as they tried to leave the ground.

Lincs Police and LCFC investigating it seems but nothing from Greater Manchester Police but judging by their actions on the night is not entirely unusual.”
