Ahead of Tuesday night’s match away at Barrow in the Second Round of the League Cup, I asked the Vital Lincoln City members what three things they think The Imps need to do to go through to the Third Round.

You can discuss what has been said in this article HERE, as well as get involved with our pre-match threads: You can post your score predictions, and discuss the starting XI!

Here’s what sedgleyimp said:

1. Forget about Saturday and move on. Teams lose football matches all the time. Sometimes those losses are heavier than others. Such is life. It is the subsequent games that really define how a season will go. I recall Southampton losing 9-0 at home to Leicester a couple of years ago. Rather than sulk and dwell on it, they picked themselves up and without any knee-jerk reactions got themselves very quickly back into winning ways. That is what we need to do on Tuesday. If the players are annoyed by the result and performance today, use that emotion and channel it into a winning performance on Tuesday. Sometimes a bad result can kick start a season for a team. It can though go the other way as we well know from the end of the 2011 season so make sure that the attitude is right.

2. Play the conditions. I’ve got no idea what the weather will be in darkest Cumbria on Tuesday night, but Barrow’s ground is quite open and they are used to how to play in those conditions. I see that they beat Harrogate today at home with what has been described as a freak goal caught in a gust of wind which flew in from the wing. Barrow will use their knowledge of conditions to their advantage. Be prepared for it.

3. Be clinical. The win at Oxford was largely down to us creating and taking two chances. That is the kind of statistic that we will need on Tuesday. I expect the match will be something of a battle with very little silky football being played. As such any clear chance made must be taken. That may well include a penalty shoot-out at 90minutes. Barrow won that way in the last round so we must be prepared for this game to go the distance and if it comes to spot kicks, make sure we are ready for them.
