It does seem that we are always away from home. Ten at home and twelve away so far, and the game against lowly bogey team Welling represented only the fourth home league match in a 12 week period. Whatever happened to the old system of one at home, one away? It isn’t like it was when I were a lad etc….

So, Welling United. The park team from south-east London, in the shadow of Charlton Athletic, rubbish ground, no fans. Would they come in a taxi, even? We really have to start wiping the floor with rubbish like this, starting today.

They say the conditions are a great leveller, so we’ll use that as our excuse to explain why the Sincil Bank floor remained essentially unwiped by the time the Welling fan was back in his taxi at 5pm. To be a goal down at half time was not in the script, and City made hard work of dragging the game back. However, the never-say-die attitude of improving JACK MULDOON won through with a great (if not slightly fortunate) equaliser, and he takes the vote for the first time this season with a fine all-round display.

“Good crossing, beating his man, tackling back and a great strike. Say no more” (tornado imp)

It isn’t often we see a substitute in the top three, but TERRY HAWKRIDGE takes second place for a tenacious performance from the bench. Having been out of the side in recent times, it was a welcome return to form for the wing man.

“Best substitute performance I’ve seen in a long time” (tornado imp)

In joint third we have MATT SPARROW, CALLUM HOWE and PAUL FARMAN; perhaps seeing our goalkeeper score a high mark against Welling at home is not quite what we expected but fair play to England’s No.1 who is always there when you need him these days.

The average team score of 6.69 was considerably higher than the team score from the Boreham Wood match; a reflection of how pleased we are to take a point at Sincil Bank from mighty Welling?

1. Jack Muldoon 8.00
2. Terry Hawkridge 7.50
3. Matt Sparrow, Callum Howe, Paul Farman 7.00
