Accrington Stanley 2-1 Lincoln City: Views, Highlights & Stats

|

Views from PerthImp following the 2-1 defeat away at Accrington Stanley in League One: “Once again, we’ve lost to a team who out-physical led us. I lost count of the times a City player was physically wrestled off the ball or had his shirt pulled or had his ankles wrapped. Mind you, having said that it’s a man’s game and we just didn’t match them for physicality and our first touch was appalling. The number of times the ball bounced off our players and the opposition just picked it off. Maybe they are used to those windy conditions with their low, open ground 🤔. I thought the ref was Ok first half but over the second half he was giving Accrington everything and ignoring their foul play. Think he felt sorry for them having sent off their GK. Not enough Imps players turned up – Poole & Jackson and Fiorini (great goal, just 5 minutes too late) were superb but the rest looked as though the season had finished for them, either that or they gave up because they were getting no protection/decisions from the ref. Hope the Crewe game is a better game of football.”

mikeosullivan: “Poor display as others have said. Hopper would have been useful at both ends, but it looks as though he is just not in favour with MA any longer.

The injuries were unfortunate, but Bishop did his best replacing McGrandles to show he doesn’t want to be here next season (and to show why he shouldn’t be).

It’s surprising that we played four loan players in a pointless end-of-season game, rather than seeing what our own players could do, unless it shows there was nobody on the bench that MA wants here next season.”

Rasenimp: “Enjoyed the day, some decent beers and not a bad away day but performance was dross really. The amount of times we tried to play out and got harried and lost the ball was ridiculous, and both the goals were really poor. I think it was Jackson who headed across his own box for the first and another keeper error for the second, without seeing them again.

Didn’t love Cullen digging out Wright (?) I think after the first goal, wasn’t as if he was up to much at the other end. Very, very forgettable. Think getting one against the ten men flattered us a bit.”

sedgleyimp: “Bit of a non-event in all honesty. Accrington were pretty poor but wanted to finish their home games with a win so were at it more than we were. We actually started pretty well and Cullen should have scored before the rebound was ruled out for offside (being at the other end of the pitch haven’t a clue if it was the correct decision or not but our players didn’t seem happy with the call). Then Whittaker had a great effort which their keeper did very well to keep out. After that, we really didn’t threaten until injury time which was disappointing, especially with their YTS reserve keeper on in his oversized shirt. Bit of a lack of energy and purpose by us, unfortunately. Injuries during the game didn’t help. I think the way McGrandles looked as he walked past us he was really upset and I think that may be the last time we see him in a City shirt which won’t be how he wanted to end his time with us. He’ll go with our best wishes though.

Oh well one game to go and we can just forget about this season after that”
