Views from hulloutpost following tonight’s away defeat at Accrington Stanley in the EFL Trophy: “Got what we deserved tonight and no excuses. We put out a ‘strong’ side against a scratch Accrington outfit on an excellent playing surface, on the first windless night there this century.
Basically, we couldn’t deal with their press and pace up front. We looked slow, disjointed, shapeless and sloppy. That produced more questions than answers. I’m afraid that was awful and apart from Jensen’s secure keeping (worrying I’m having to say that) I am struggling to think of any positives.
Too many defenders looked outpaced/weak and nobody had any quality or creativity going forward. In the first half we were going sidewards/backwards or long too early, and once again we did not get players forward as we were pressed out of any cohesion. Second half we opened up a bit more but that only made them the most dangerous outfit.
Bitterly, bitterly disappointing.”

Post-match reaction from the Match Thread:
imps_joe: “Bit of a disaster on the financial side.
Bit of a disaster playing such a strong team and perform so poorly (judging by comments on here).”
Impish: “So is that about 80k we have spaffed away in the cups this season?
Very disappointing.”
clanford: “Well that was very poor. As much as I hate to say it, Accy thoroughly deserved that. They pressed, they ran and they passed so much better than us. Only positive for me was how well Jovan played when he came on. Really starting to look the part. On to Sat then. UTI.”
mikeosullivan: “Probably the worst game I have seen Roughan have. Accrington deserved to win. Jensen had to make 5 or 6 decent saves but we hardly tested their keeper.
Makama and Duffy deserve a start on Saturday. Roughan must now be a long way from selection, unfortunately.”
