A Tale Of Mice and Men

Instead of snow rain threatened this one and hard conditions call for great English oaks. Stallard Kerr, Beevers and Brown are rocks, real men chiselled from the coalfields and then pressed so hard they formed diamonds. Stallard for one used to sleep on a six inch rusty nail and his dad used to wake him at dawn so he could put it back in his boot before he went to work in the pit. Beavers and Brown were weaned on raw meat and towering centre forwards. Kerr was born foaming at the mouth, dismantling furniture whilst still in his walker. Yes it was grit in the grime of a Sincil swamp that won the day and kept the good ship promotion afloat. A Stallard power header from man of the match Beevers` cross-settled the second home game on the trot one nil.

We did try to play but conditions didn`t favour that kind of game. Studs were like a knife through butter. The decision to play 4-4-2 may have got the result but in truth we played 4-2-2 because Amoo and Hughes are only fine footballers on plush pastures. Get them in these conditions and they are lightweights who lack the confidence to even beat their man. Really 4-3-3 would have given us a stronger midfield, especially with Angus` sending off after 30 minutes with us 1-0 up. The confident comfortable Green would have ably assisted Frecks and Kerr. SWD was IMPressive to say the least; we could smell the fear in their defence from the back of the Stacey West. Add Dany`s pace with both of them playing off target man Stallard and we would have had a Rochdale on our hands.

Schoey and Deehan know best however as we are now fourth, two points of second and five points off top. Perhaps Hartlepool`s 3-1 win may further knock the confidence of top dogs Walsall ahead of Fridays Sky game. A result there should set us in good spirits for Hereford Accrington and Mansfield. The games in March against Hartlepool and Swindon will ultimately shape our destiny though. Dany on for only 10 minutes may not be fit after a mazy run was brought to an end with a crude challenge. Beevers too will be out after a fifth yellow in an incident on the hour. Ex Imp Lee Thorpe, Beevers and Miller all tried to become one at the far post things got heated and as ever the angelic Stallard attempted to act the peacemaker. All three officials ended up in the Stacey West 18 yard box to quell the melee involving nearly every outfield player. Amazingly only Thorpe, Beevers and Miller were booked.

And so to Walsall and The entertainers second of three televised games next Friday. Go on Schoey do 4-3-3. When we did that the last time we played them it was a two all thriller. This time we`ll do em`!
