What 3 Things do we need to do to beat Morecambe at the Globe Arena tomorrow afternoon?
1. Keep it tight at the back and earn a rare clean sheet (only 2 in the last 12 league games). Morecambe have only scored 37 in 37 games (only Grimsby and Barnet have scored fewer) and only had one shot on target on Tuesday against Colchester. If we do what Danny has asked for and keep a clean sheet, this should be a win because we usually score. City have scored in 20 of their last 22 games, the sole exceptions being 0-0 draws at Newport and Cambridge.
2. Use Palmer, Anderson and Rowe as impact substitutes. With Morecambe having played in difficult conditions on Tuesday night, they will tire as the game progresses. They have an ageing team – Ellison 39, Thompson 37, Roche 35, Rose 35, Old 32, Fleming 29, McGurk 29 – which doesn’t help on heavy pitches. The energy of the much younger Woodyard, Whitehouse, Williams, Palmer, Habergham, Wharton, Rowe and Anderson should be too much for them in the second half if we can stay on level terms until then.
3. Get right behind the team and make lots of noise. Morecambe’s home support is dire – just 842 of them against Colchester – so we should easily be able to outsing them.
