“You could argue that the players have taken a hit too.”

|

Unsurprisingly there have been comments about Lincoln City signing players after making non-playing staff redundant on Social Media and on at least one other Football Clubs forum, but as Scotimp has said below, “you could argue that the players have taken a hit too”.

Here is the full post by Scotimp:

Proof of that lies in what happened in 2011: as I posted above, we reduced staffing to just eight after relegation. It was only through investing in the playing/managerial side that we won promotion in 2017 and created all those new jobs. I don’t know how many full-time non-football staff we employ right now, but I have just counted 18 on the club website alone, and that is after the redundancies.

And you could argue that the players have taken a hit too: would Bostwick, Eardley and Vickers have been released, had the financial outlook been better? I don’t think so, and MA has hinted at that. In other words, they have effectively been made redundant too. Have the players accepted revised contracts with lower pay? We don’t know, but I suspect so. So it is hard to claim we are focusing on the playing side at the expense of the administrative staff, because there have been job losses on both sides.
