This will be the seventh time he has been the man in the middle for a match involving Wigan Athletic and his sixth for a match involving Lincoln City.

His most recent match involving the hosts was their FA Cup First Round replay away at Solihull Moors in November 2021, which they won 2-1 after extra time. He showed 7 yellow cards in this match, including 3 for Wigan Athletic players (Tom Pearce, Callum Lang and Chris Sze), and booked former Imps loanee Harry Boyes while he was on loan at Solihull.

His most recent match involving The Imps was our 2-1 home defeat versus Burton Albion in League One in January 2022. He only showed two yellow cards on that occasion, both of which were for Burton Albion players.

Charles Breakspear was the man in the middle for 33 matches during the 2022/23 season. In those matches, he showed 114 yellow cards (3.45) and 5 red cards. He was just a little card happy in the League One encounter between Cheltenham Town and Oxford United when he showed 9 yellow cards and 2 red cards, including a red card for former Imps midfielder Ellis Chapman (2 bookable offences) and a booking for former Wigan Athletic striker Kyle Joseph.

So far this season he has refereed 15 matches, showing 61 yellow cards (4.10) and 3 red cards. He brandished 9 yellow cards in the match between Barnsley and Blackpool in League One in September, including bookings for former Wigan Athletic strikers Devante Cole and Jensen Weir, and midfielder Callum Connolly, who was on loan at both Wigan Athletic and Lincoln City.
