Merthyr Imp: “Our record win against Wigan came on their first-ever visit to Sincil Bank. This was on Leap Year Day in 1980 – well, actually it was Leap Year night as it was a Friday night fixture which was why I couldn’t be there.

But I do know that a 17-year-old Phil Turner made his first-team debut and helped control the midfield in a 4-0 win. Man of the match Mick Harford scored his first hat-trick for the club and also set up Derek Bell to score the fourth goal.”

johnolbe: “Terry Fleming aka Tony Dennis got booked twice and stayed on the field against Wigan in the mid/late 90’s. Robert Martinez played for Wigan that night.

I think it was Martinez who stood right on the touchline as Fleming was taking a long throw so as to put him off restricting a follow-through. I think Fleming threw it straight at his face knocking him over. Fleming was booked for ungentlemanly conduct and gave the name of fellow imp Tony Dennis to avoid being sent off for a second yellow card.

I can’t remember the aftermath, but I’m sure someone will. Or have I simply dreamt this up?”

Scotimp: “One of the worst games I have ever seen was at home to Wigan – 1990s. It was 0-0, I seem to recall it was a midweek game but I could be wrong.

Springfield Park always seemed to deliver crap too – John Fashanu broke an arm there – but it did witness a Lincoln City miracle when Bob Latchford actually scored.”
