Wigan Athletic 1-2 Lincoln City: Match Stats & Views From The Forum

|

Views from Chesterimp following the 2-1 win away at Wigan Athletic in League One: “First league game I’ve been able to get to, thought we were supposed to be crap relegation candidates?

A terrific, committed performance from all 14 players involved to get a deserved win at one of the favourites for promotion. We had some luck for us but some against as well. Formation, and its tweaks during the game seemed to suit the players used, N’Lundulu had a great game and I was impressed with Robson. The ‘old lags’ Poole and Montsma were both excellent. Bishop’s willingness to win the ball then run with it caused Wigan problems all night, hope his injury isn’t serious. Maguire the grit in the oyster.

On that performance, with the players missing, we have a top half squad at least at the moment. I fear January might see credible bids for Scully and Montsma so we’ll need a better window to progress.

In the meanwhile, consistency is the key, they need to maintain that intensity on Saturday.

Laugh of the night was the ad for a firm of accountants who are Wigan’s auditors, surely not something to shout about?”

German Imp: “Fantastic performance every player playing their part tonight. Pressing, tackling, anticipating, mixing it up paid off. What a night.

Well done City! Well done everyone. Well done McGrandles, for me the player who held the glue to put it all together in going forward and defending.”

Gaz_Imp: “Superb win. Best team performance this season. Looked more like Imps of last season.

Any of N’Lundulu, Montsma, Eyoma, McGrandles or Robson could have been Man of the Match for me for the right reasons. Would go Montsma if pushed, really back to his best. Sorensen and Bishop also played well and both improving. N’Lundulu performance was particularly encouraging out of them all though for me, just what we need. And Robson is looking an excellent addition, really like him.

Would have snapped your hand off for a point before kick-off. Great result!”

Brendan Bradley: “With the personnel we have available that was a much more fitting formation and it showed. I don’t know why it hadn’t been tried before as it was used in the second half of last season even when it didn’t suit the players we had then!

Anyway, apart from a few scares that was well controlled, as it was om Saturday, but with more edge.

Onwards and upwards.”
