The last time The Imps hosted today’s opponents Plymouth Argyle was on Tuesday 20th October 2020. City won 2-0 that night, thanks to goals from Jorge Grant (50′ PEN) and Brennan Johnson 72′.

Ahead of today’s match, we have done a Q&A with a Plymouth Argyle supporter, so thank you to Patrick for answering our questions!

If you would like to get involved with the conversation on 100% Imps, you can join our Lincoln City v Plymouth Argyle Match Thread! Every page view helps raise money for Lincoln City Football Club!

How long have you supported Plymouth Argyle?

Since the very early 1990s when lower league footballers wouldn’t be seen dead without a perm or ‘tache. Relegated in my first game against Blackburn Rovers – that’s how to introduce a kid to the crushing disappointment of a lifetime supporting Argyle.

Where did you finish last season?

After a solid 2 thirds of the season, we ended with a gradual spiral towards relegation, which was avoided more due to a lack of fixtures than anything else. We’ve sent last year’s defence off to give supporters of other clubs night-terrors now though.

What do you think of your manager?

The guy is brilliant. He is also clearly adapting and learning as he goes. He’s noted deficiencies and worked over the summer to strengthen in the right areas. Thus far it’s paying dividends.

What are your hopes and expectations for the 2020/21 season?

Hoping that we can maintain the form we’ve shown and avoid any sleepless nights towards the end of the season. Maybe slink in and around the top ten stealthy like and pick-pocket a play-off spot if we can stay relatively injury-free.

One(s) to watch?

Pan (Pautche Camara) – if there’s a blade of grass he doesn’t cover at Sincil Bank tomorrow I’d be surprised. In his own words ‘we will eat the grass to win the game’.

Which teams do you think will finish in the top six in League One?

Sunderland, Bolton, Wigan, Rotherham, Portsmouth, and Ipswich.

Which teams do you think will finish in the bottom four in League One?

Doncaster, Crewe, Gillingham, and (hopefully) Cambridge after their shenanigans.

What are your thoughts on Lincoln City?

Always associate Lincoln with high-scoring games. Not only last year’s 4-3, but I was a neutral at your play-off final against Bournemouth.

I think I contracted tinnitus at your ground on my one visit to date thanks to the siren – we have one at the Dockyard that sounds every Monday, and it brings me out in a cold sweat at the thought of that Tuesday night 3-0 drubbing.

Disturbing-looking mascot.

What do you think the score will be?

2-2.

Random fact about your Club?

There are a few. For the purposes of this let’s go with, in friendlies/exhibition games, we’ve drawn with Boca Juniors and beaten Argentina, Uruguay, and latterly, Santos (for whom Pele played at the time).

If you could steal one Lincoln City player for your own team, who would it be and why?

I don’t want another Terry Flemming debacle, thank you.

I would have said Montsama until we signed 4 centre-backs in pre-season…adding set-piece goals is a good habit and didn’t he score a few last season?

What are your proudest and most embarrassing moments as a Plymouth Argyle supporter?

Hmm – do you mean me personally?!

I’m going to assume you mean the whole club. I guess I’d say that the proudest I’ve been of my club is when the players and supporters rallied around to keep the club alive when we were in administration.

The most embarrassing – difficult to pinpoint just one – but there’s a moment seared in my mind that no amount of counselling will erase. Already getting drubbed one season at Kidderminster Harriers and our winger tried one of those rabona crosses (you know one leg behind the other – the type of thing Ronaldinho used to do) – tripped himself up and scuffed the ball out.

Who would you say is your most underrated player?

Danny Mayor, by some of our own fans (this will kick off another 50-page thread on our message board).

Do you have a Supporters Trust and what role do they play at the Club?

Yes, they are active in engaging with the club, organising events, and helping with fundraising – for instance for the Jack Leslie statue.

If you don’t already know about the statue campaign, please check it out at jackleslie.co.uk – its a story that should be of interest to ALL football fans.

Which was your favourite match involving Plymouth Argyle?

There are a surprising amount to choose from now I sit down and think about it.

I’d probably say the match in which we secured promotion to the Championship against QPR at Home Park in 2004. Mickey-Trigger-Evans the home-grown hero getting his big sideburned head on it to send 20,000 janners nuts – what’s not to like?

Which was your least favourite match involving Plymouth Argyle?

Wembley play-off final against Wimbledon under Derek Adams. A complete non-entity of a match. The only team to play for a draw in a final.

Do you have a Former Players Association at Plymouth Argyle?

I really can’t answer that one as I have no idea.

What is the best thing about Plymouth?

Waking up on a clear, crisp Sunday, knowing you can go to the Hoe which looks out over Plymouth Sound and Drakes Island, one of the best views in any city in the UK, and blow all the cobwebs out before a big helping of chips in the historic Barbican.

Can you keep your excellent start going for the whole season?

If we remain injury-free, then there’s no logical reason why not. We have some key players yet to feature really this season through injury so, if we can get them chomping at the bit sometime soon there should be enough cover.

James Wilson is a defender we had who didn’t really get a proper run in our team despite probably deserving to. How’s he doing with you?

Well, you won’t see him on Saturday thanks to the concussion he got being larruped in the face by a clearance by one of his own players on Tuesday. He’s looking, like all the centre-backs have, like he’s had some experience defending, which is always very useful. Our summer shopping list 1, 2, and 3 was ‘gnarly centre-half who will head bricks if they are crossed at him and keeps shin bones of opposition attackers mounted on his study wall’. Fortunately, we got more than that and, at the time of writing, they all look like they can play a bit as well, including Wilson.

We know that there are people that would like to contribute towards the development of The Stacey West Stand but won’t be able to put in the minimum of £500.00 towards the bond, so this is a great way to raise some money together and donate to this project!
