How Long Have You Supported Guiseley?

I have been supporting Guiseley for around 10 years now, the club has changed massively since I started watching us. I started watching Guiseley away from home more regularly about 3-4 years ago and have loved every minute of the time I have supported Guiseley AFC.

Last Season’s League Finish?

We finished 5th last season and secured promotion through the playoffs.

What Do You Think Of Your Manager?

Mark Bower is a very good manager who has done a very good job with us, he took us from the relegation zone to the playoff final the season before last. He has kept the core of the squad that have done well for us over the years, a couple did move on who he would have liked to have kept but the circumstances were away from the football field in both instances. It was a surprise appointment at the time and when he was made permanent manager we weren’t playing the best football I had seen at Nethermoor but when he managed to get the players he wanted into the team things really did start to turn around.

Hopes/Expectations This Season?

I hope to finish anywhere above the bottom four really, if we stay up this season we can push on in the upcoming seasons to perhaps challenge for a top half finish or play off places.

One(s) To Watch?

Will Hatfield has done very well this season and has been key to our play, he covers every single blade of grass on the field, Oli Johnson, who we haven’t seen this season yet due to inury, can turn a game around in a few minutes and often confuses defenders with his skills and tricks.

There was very little transfer activity over the summer. Has that been a help or a hindrance?

So far it appears to have been a help to us, we kept most of the players who got promoted and as hinted earlier only a couple moved on who Mark would have liked to have kept at the club. We do perhaps lack options at the attacking end of the field but I know Mark and Danny Boshell are always on the lookout to improve the team.

What are the main differences you’ve noticed so far in this league compared to last season in the division below?

The clinical finishing from a couple of teams who we have played this season, particularly Aldershot and Gateshead, we had spells during both games where we were completely on top but failed to convert one of the several chances we created. Also the pace of the play, Woking are probably the fastest I have seen this season but Aldershot were fast too, we just couldn’t keep up with them at times. Another big thing is the distances we cover to watch the side, playing at Torquay and Dover two Saturdays on the run was a real eye opener.

How have you performed in the opening games? On paper, it looks as though you’ve had a relatively comfortable start in terms of teams faced and their respective league positions.

We have played well, we have not lost as many as I thought we perhaps could have done so far but also we haven’t won too many either, we are very good at drawing games but a draw, particularly away from home, can sometimes be a good result for us. We have some of the top teams coming up soon including visits to Forest Green and Wrexham within five days of each other.

Top Five Predictions?

In no particular order, Grimsby, Forest Green, Eastleigh, Wrexham and Tranmere.

Bottom Four Predictions?

Again in no particular order, Welling, FC Halifax, Boreham Wood and Altrincham.

Thoughts on Lincoln City?

A very big side who we could only have dreamed have facing in a league game a few years ago, I was shocked when Lincoln were relegated to the Conference, as it was then, because you looked to be safe and clear from relegation a couple of months before the end of the season. I have always wanted to visit your ground and will be looking forward to making the trip in January.

Score Prediction?

I think it will be a close game, hope we sneak it though, shall go for Guiseley AFC 2-1 Lincoln City.

Random Fact About Your Club?

The TV Programme Playing The Field was filmed at Guiseley AFC for the first series.
