Many thanks to Grimsby Town supporter Ian for providing this weeks answers ahead of Saturday’s game.

Many thanks to Grimsby Town supporter Ian for providing this weeks answers ahead of Saturday’s game.

How Long Have You Supported Grimsby?

My first game was the last home game of 89/90 season, Grimsby 5 Wrexham 1 – Garry Birtles hat-trick securing us promotion from Division 4.

I was hooked straight away and have been going regularly for the next 25 years.

Last Season’s League Finish?

3rd place, which after our awful start i would’ve taken.

Looked at one point like we might catch Barnet and Bristol R but had to settle for the play-offs (again).

Demolished Eastleigh over 2 legs then onto Bristol Rovers at Wembley, possibly my lowest point ever supporting GTFC, even worse than being relegated at Burton Albion because all through the final I didn’t for 1 minute think that we would not win, we just seemed so comfortable that day.

Seeing my 8 year old lad cry at football for the first time was an awful feeling, hope we never have to go through another day like that again

What Do You Think Of Your Manager?

Known as ‘The Tinkerman’, he seems to like getting a winning team then changing players for no apparent reason with last Saturday v Torquay a prime example!

Despite this I can’t help but like the guy, but he sometimes needs to admit when he has messed up then he would be much more popular amongst GTFC fans.

Hopes/Expectations This Season?

I hope that we win the league and don’t have to bother with more play-off heartbreak.

Expectations, I am a half full sort of person so I still think we can win the league despite already being 7 off the pace. So far this season I have been to the Barrow and Torquay games and when we get it right we look unstoppable.

One(s) To Watch?

Andy Monkhouse looks a superb signing to me and hasn’t had a bad game yet.

Bogle and Amond upfront, I would not swap for any other front 2 in this league. They always look like scoring a couple each game.

We have gone from struggling to score goals last year, to being top scorers, which says it all really. Oh nearly forgot, Danny East’s crosses are brilliant (so far).

You signed Josh Gowling in the summer after a short loan spell at the end of last season. How has he done so far? In his time here, it was generally accepted that there was a good defender in there but he under-performed the majority of the time.

Would be one of the first names in my team sheet, I’d put him on a par with Pearson, sticks his head in where it hurts, super signing.

Is there any excuse for Hurst not to get you promoted? Kept a decent core of last season’s squad together, a budget increase even before the Crowdfunder money was taken into account and having added well to the squad, too.

This year, no. Extra cash, made some excellent signings, if we do not do it this year I think it will be Hurst’s last. This team we have SHOULD have enough to win this league, if we do not then I think it is curtains for him.

Thoughts on Lincoln City?

Look to have assembled a very good squad this year. If Liam Hearn can stay injury free I would expect top half finish with an outside chance of Play-Offs. I reckon maybe 7th/8th.

Score Prediction?

Imps 1 Cods 3.
