Ahead of today’s match, we have done a Q&A with a Cambridge United supporter, so thank you to Mike for answering our questions!

How long have you supported Cambridge United?

Since 2003.

Where did you finish last season?

2nd in League 2. Promoted.

What do you think of your manager?

Up there with Beck, McFarland, and Money among our best ever. A knighthood can’t be far away. Worried he might get poached though.

What are your hopes and expectations for the 2021/22 season?

Still hoping for a respectable mid-table finish and, if we can add a couple to the squad during the window, I expect we will achieve that.

One(s) to watch?

Joe Ironside and Dimi Mitov obviously, especially after last Saturday. Ben Worman, a home-grown attacking midfielder has broken into the team this season and been impressive. He’s only 20 and has a bright future to look forward to.

Which teams do you think will finish in the top six in League One?

Sunderland, Rotherham, Wigan, Plymouth, MK, and Wycombe.

Which teams do you think will finish in the bottom four in League One?

Gillingham, Doncaster, Fleetwood, and Wimbledon.

What are your thoughts on Lincoln City?

They were on fire at the Abbey back in September but seem to have struggled since, although the 3-1 win at Sunderland was a great result. We’re more or less level in the table, but we’re punching above our weight whereas Lincoln appear to be punching below theirs.

What do you think the score will be?

2-1 to the mighty U’s.

Random fact about your Club?

Our first game as a Football League club was against Lincoln City at the Abbey on 15 August 1970. It finished 1-1.

If you could steal one Lincoln City player for your own team, who would it be and why?

Scully. We couldn’t deal with him at our place in September and his pace and goals are great assets at this level.

What are your proudest and most embarrassing moments as a Cambridge United supporter?

Most U’s fans will have a new proudest moment after the win at Newcastle last Saturday and I am no exception.

The 5-0 FA Trophy defeat at Histon in December 2006 will probably never be surpassed as the most embarrassing.

Who would you say is your most underrated player?

Adam May. Improving all the time and has scored some great goals.

Do you have a Supporters Trust and what role do they play at the Club?

We do. They have a seat on the club’s Board and represent the fans in discussions with the club. They also organise away travel and have been quite proactive this season.

Which was your favourite match involving Cambridge United?

Last weekend was close, but the 2-1 win over Gateshead in the Conference Play-off final at Wembley in 2014 meant so much more as it put an end to nine years in the wilderness.

Which was your least favourite match involving Cambridge United?

The 5-0 defeat at Histon (see above).

Do you have a Former Players Association at Cambridge United?

Yes, we do. We have seen a number of former players at the Abbey and I have been fortunate enough to meet some of them.

Are you still buzzing over the Newcastle win? Feel free to tell your players that they can have a deserved day off on Saturday.

Yes, still buzzing and probably will be at least until we face Luton at home in the next round. Dream on – they’re on a roll!
