Rob Burch looks set to finally sort his future out next week and put pen to paper on a new one year compromise deal at the Imps. Doncaster Rovers may tempt him, Notts County may offer the gold too, but the Mighty Imps appear to have given him the guarantees he wants.

Enough of the riddles, what`s the Coup?

Like everything in football nothing is set in stone in football until the ink dries much to the management`s frustration. Rob however has been overheard suggesting a one year deal would suit him and his career development given at Doncaster he would not be the undisputed number one.

Doncaster of course need a replacement for the aging Sullivan but he is still their number one, clearly illustrated with them offering him a one year deal on May 7th. Sullivan at 39 may have been the oldest player at the club but he made the most appearances this season. So why should Rob sit on the bench for the best part of a season when he can leave on a free and become the undisputed number one at Donny this time next year?

Burch has naturally been keen to keep his options open and Blackburn had looked, four times, received mixed scouting reports and felt they had enough between the sticks. Dario Grady tested the water and was said to be shocked at the package the Imps had offered. So fair play to the Imps here, for we have pushed the boat out sufficient for L1 and 2 teams to think more than twice. Crewe incidentally, after a consolidation season, have far more in the bank than County due to a hugely profitable fountain of youth. You can add a zero to what ours has raised in the last 4 years alone.

Notts County meanwhile are desperate to change his mind at the last minute according to sources this and the black side of the Trent. They are intriguingly without a keeper to threaten Burch, which could be telling. Schmeichel has left and Pilkington was also recently released, suggesting Ray Trew has already put a welcome doormat out front.

As to whether Rob will move there, well that is another matter, for although he was born in the West Country he has really taken to Lincolnshire and South Yorkshire after a long spell at Wednesday as a bored understudy. Albeit not the most extrovert character, Rob is fiercely loyal and has really bonded with the Lincoln fans and we certainly play a part. So a gentle nudge or plea on bended knees if anyone sees him.

So although there is understood to have been ‘interest` from other parties, no one has asked for his registration let alone made a bid so we are very much in the driving seat and Rob appears 95% happy to stay for a year and naturally pick up a nice signing on bonus from the Imps in the process. In this case we are not the paupers for once as we will not be paying two keepers salaries. Freck got a couple of these, which helped us to hold on to him as we improved his contract during his career at the Imps. Despite money obviously being important the overriding factor for Rob is being the undisputed number one at a club. That is a gimme at the Imps, with coach Muzzy as permanently cover in the first instance prior to the loan option being employed.

So next week will either see Burch an Imp or a County player
