The Imps and other League two clubs are £178,000 better off this summer thanks to an agreement over solidarity payments. It is unfair that the Championship will become a farce and that effectively the Premiership will become a closed shop to all bar about 25 teams, but at least the Imps get a result for once.

The agreement on Monday boosts the money each club receives from £108,000 to £325,000 in League One, and from £72,000 to £250,000 in League Two. This will however make it even harder to get up the league with the money split 80% / 12% / 8% between the Championship, league One and League Two respectively.

It would have been nice to have hoped for a bit of help or held out but with the Premier league`s threat to withhold payments many League 2 cash flows could not have coped with a stand off. Steff Wright and Bradford City were amongst half a dozen sides to vote against the deal with the Bantams even considering a leagal challenge with the office of fair trading.
