We`re better than this

4692 chose the warmth and passion of the Imps at The Bank over the sterile champions league in the comfort of their own homes. Trouble was the team didn`t join them. We accept that young teams cannot achieve consistent brilliance overnight. But how many out there tonight are as proud to wear the shirt as I am whilst sitting here writing about our heroes?

It`s happened again and I don`t mean conceding an early goal. The Lincoln of Friday night would have looked at the 89 minutes left on the clock and gone and won it. No I`m talking about us being outmuscled by average League 2 fodder. Oh we can do the top teams even carrying a player. But not the Herefords, Burys and Chesters of this world. They wanted it and in the absence of Beavers the awful Hughes left Mayo totally exposed. Incredulously at halftime the hapless Hughes was then placed at left back after Warlowe replaced Mayo. Inevitably it was only a matter of time before Mayo, on a yellow, would have seen red on his first half performance against two men turning him inside out. Hughes has used up his excuses, his youth, inexperience, unfair expectation and a media placing a price tag on his head. Please Schoey he needs a rest. We appreciate your loyalty to the bloke but unless he is soon to become part of your family drop him to the bench. On tonight`s performance he couldn`t trap a sandbag or beat an egg. Warlowe beat YOUR man three times and we were hardly at our attacking best.

Jamies back Saturday, we can`t drop SWD so why not 4-3-3. Let`s face it we`ve been playing three in midfield since Christmas anyway. With Beavers back too, if the battle gets too much for Amoo we can always get Greeny to bolster Kerr and Frecks. We are too good to blow it now. Of the top four only the Hartlepool (1st 67pts got 3 points The Imps (3rd 62), Walsall (2nd 64) and Swindon (4th 61) lost. Franchise (5th 60) were pegged back to 1-1 the dons sold out again by a 90th minute Mansfield equaliser. The top 5 can now feel the breath of a rampant Stockport (6th 59) whos latest scalp was Walsall. Our heroes stand on the brink of becoming City Legends! And even after tonight that brink is still there to be crossed.
