Two Peterborough United Supporters Talk To Vital Lincoln City

The last time The Imps hosted today’s opponents Peterborough United was on New Years Day 2020, in front of a crowd of 10,025, including 1,740 Posh supporters. Ivan Toney gave the visitors the lead in the 28th minute, curling the ball past Josh Vickers in the City goal. In the 67th minute, Tyler Walker’s left-footed effort from outside the area deflected into the top corner to make it 1-1. In the 70th minute, Siriki Dembélé replaced Mo Eisa, and his first involvement saw him sent off about 30 seconds after coming on. The Imps were awarded a free-kick in the 90th minute, and, well, you can watch what happened next below…

First up, the answers provided by Alex:

How long have you supported Peterborough United?

20 years!

Where did you finish last season?

This is a contentious issue. We were in the top 6 when the league was paused and finished 7th with PPG…

What do you think of your manager?

The right man for the job. He’s been there and done it with Posh and knows how to get out of this league.

What are your hopes and expectations for the 2020/21 season?

Promotion to the Championship! But also financial stability and an economic way of running the football club in order to preserve jobs for non-football playing staff.

One(s) to watch?

Jack Taylor (Midfielder) and Ronnie Edwards (CB).

Which teams you think will finish in the top six in League One?

In no particular order: Lincoln, Peterborough, Pompey, Hull, Charlton and Ipswich.

Which teams do you think will finish in the bottom four in League One?

Burton, Swindon, AFC Wimbledon and Northampton.

What are your thoughts on Lincoln City?

Very attacking team, always beat us. After a month without playing, there is no team I’d rather face less than Lincoln.

What do you think the score will be?

Having said all that, 2-1 Posh.

Random fact about your Club?

Mike Tyson is a Posh fan.

If you could steal one Lincoln City player for your own team, who would it be and why?

Harry Anderson. He deserves to come home.

What are your proudest and most embarrassing moments as a Peterborough United supporter?

Proudest: Posh 3- 0 Huddersfield at Old Trafford in the League 1 play-off final. Grant McCann curling one in top bins in front on the Posh crowd, unbeatable!

Embarrassing: Posh 1-2 Chorley. It could have been more too, truly shocking.

Who would you say is your most underrated player?

Joe Ward.

Do you have a Supporters Trust and what role do they play at the Club?

Yes, PISA. They fundraise, organise travel and have a voice in wider conversations with the club.

Which was your favourite match involving Peterborough United?

Posh 3- 0 Wolves on Boxing day in the championship. That was the best I’ve ever seen us play with our best ever squad.

Which was your least favourite match involving Peterborough United?

Ask any posh fan and they’ll give you the same answer. Palace 3- 2 Posh at Selhurst Park on the final day of the season, where a Jedinak header relegated us in the 89th minute. It was never a free-kick!!!!! They bought our best player 2 weeks later and we’ve been in League 1 ever since.

Do you have a Former Players Association at Peterborough United?

Yes, a Hall of Fame.

What is the best thing about Peterborough?

The Cathedral is by far the most celebrated landmark in the city. Built in 1542 and place of burial to Catherine of Aragon, the west front really is a sight to behold.

And now for the answers provided by Stuart:

How long have you supported Peterborough United?

Since the 1980s.

Where did you finish last season?

Last season didn’t finish, did it?

What do you think of your manager?

He’s a legitimate club legend, but I’m not convinced he’s the right guy for the job. But he replaced Steve Evans, so that’s OK.

What are your hopes and expectations for the 2020/21 season?

I don’t really care. Last season left such a sour taste – couple that with not being in the ground and I’m struggling to muster any enthusiasm.

One(s) to watch?

Midfielder Jack Taylor is very impressive and will go a long way in the game. We also have a very young defender, Ronnie Edwards, who may well not play in this game, but he’s going to the very, very top. Both from Barnet, funnily enough.

Which teams you think will finish in the top six in League One?

It’s too hard to tell, because of the impact of Covid. It’s not a very strong division, though, so there’s plenty that could put a run together.

Which teams do you think will finish in the bottom four in League One?

Same as above, really.

What are your thoughts on Lincoln City?

Looking good this year and seem to be playing nice football for a change. Am kind of pleased the pathetic elements of both clubs’ fans won’t get a chance to meet this year.

What do you think the score will be?

0-0.

Random fact about your Club?

Highest ever scorers in an English season.

If you could steal one Lincoln City player for your own team, who would
it be and why?

I’ve only heard of a couple of them. Got any strikers that run around?

What are your proudest and most embarrassing moments as a Peterborough United supporter?

I was very proud when my daughter was mascot at Nottingham Forest on Boxing Day one year. I was still on the pitch when the game kicked off.

Embarrassing: whenever the dullards try to start a fight. New Year’s Day last year would be a prime example.

Who would you say is your most underrated player?

Christy Pym, the ‘keeper doesn’t seem to get many plaudits, despite loads of clean sheets. He was a bit dodgy for his first few games, which I think set everyone’s opinion. But he’s been excellent since then.

Do you have a Supporters Trust and what role do they play at the Club?

Yeah, but they’re fairly quiet. They do good work overseeing things, but we’re reasonably well run, so there’s not so much to worry about.

Which was your favourite match involving Peterborough United?

Our first win at Wembley in 1992 takes some beating.

Which was your least favourite match involving Peterborough United?

Loads. Perhaps away at Hartlepool one evening when I didn’t get there until after half time and we lost in the last couple of minutes. Ugh.

Do you have a Former Players Association at Peterborough United?

Not, but the club is good at involving former players.

What is the best thing about Peterborough?

Cola Boy.
