Ahead of tomorrow night’s match away at Fleetwood Town in League One, I asked the Vital Lincoln City members what three things they think The Imps need to do to pick up all three points.

Here’s what sedgleyimp said:

1. Keep up the momentum. Saturday’s win at Charlton was fantastic, but we have had great results in isolation throughout the season and they haven’t been followed by another good win. The away win at Plymouth was followed by the home loss to Burton. Win at Sunderland then follow that by getting beaten by Cambridge at Sincil Bank. That is the inconsistency that has dogged us all season and although a run of wins at this stage of the season won’t catapult us up the league, the impetus we can get from them will be a huge boon for when the campaign kicks off again in July. Players coming back this season did so on the back of a play-off final loss. Imagine what the could do if they came back to training off the back of successive wins at the end of this campaign.

2. Play to the conditions. About six weeks ago I and many others were pretty close to Fleetwood before the elements put paid to the game. Reading through comments after getting home, their pitch was being compared to a cow field. I hope that the intervening weeks have allowed it to recover somewhat but I don’t expect a plush carpet will be seen. The weather report for tomorrow suggest drizzle for most of the afternoon so nothing which might threaten the game going ahead, but conditions and the standard of the playing surface might be a factor and we will have to adapt to them quite quickly come kick-off.

3. Play to the very end of the game. Fleetwood come into this off the back of a rare win last Saturday so will be in a decent frame of mind. Before that win though they have lost quite a few games by conceding late goals. Wycombe beat them with the only goal in the 94th minute. Burton came from two down to beat them in injury time. Ipswich’s 2-0 win came courtesy of goals beyond the 70th minute. Does that suggest a team which runs out of steam late on or perhaps gets nervous as the end of a match approaches. Perhaps, and we should look to take advantage of such things. So if it is level in the 80th minute I think that little bit of extra pressure just might make them buckle.
